  • Houston, TX (1888PressRelease) October 15, 2014 - Shirley A. Woods, Wellness Manager for Erickson Living, has been selected as a Professional of the Year Member of the Covington Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry.

    Shirley A. Woods began her career in fitness in 1996. An avid exerciser since high school, she joined her very first fitness facility that had her yearning for more. After having two children, she then began taking aerobic classes at the gym, and has since begun teaching classes ever since.

    Mrs. Woods now teaches 20 exercise classes each week for the residents of Eagle's Trace, including Tai Chi, Pilates, Yoga, Chair Chi Yoga, Water Aerobics, Strength and Stretch, Functioning Beginning, and a Silver Express Class, which is a combination of standing and sitting. She gives orientations in the fitness center, does personal training, and teaches a six-week Boot Camp and six-week Balance Class. In addition, she oversees the Aquatic Center and has a personal trainer on staff that she supervises.

    "I always attend ay classes available in my field as the field of fitness is forever changing," Mrs. Woods said. "My desire to learn new things to enhance my career has always been a force inside of me. Just this year I have already read 27 books related to my field."

    Inspired by the great Jack LeLane and several others fitness gurus, Mrs. Woods is currently working on her college degree through the Fitness Institute of Technology. She is certified in CPR, basic life support, aquatic exercise, and is a certified Tai Chi, Yoga, Pilates instructor, and personal trainer. She is also working on her first book that will demonstrate how exercise can help with depression, self-esteem, mood, brain health, memory, slowing the aging process, quality of life, and posture.

    Mrs. Woods is now an "Ageless Grace" educator, a very comprehensive program for mind and body and she looks forward to sharing it with others to enhance their lives. She is an active member of Aquatic Exercise Association, Yoga Alliance, International Fitness Professionals Association, Tai Chi for Health, and New Yoga. She also received an award for outstanding programming from her former supervisor at Eagle's Trace. She's written articles for her company's newsletter as has been featured for her various accomplishments in the field, including in the Houston Chronicle and the Erickson Tribune. She is also a strong supporter of Habitat for Humanity and the Arthritis Foundation 100 Club and volunteers with the Arthritis Foundation and by teaching Tai Chi classes locally.
