  • Houston, TX (1888PressRelease) December 13, 2014 - Salvatore J. Romano, Retired Senior Planning Analyst and Senior Contract Negotiator for Occidental Petroleum Corporation has been selected as a VIP Member of the Covington Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry.

    Salvatore J. Romano began his career as a gas accountant for Trunkline Gas Company/Panhandle Energy in 1979. Two years later, he was hired by Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America as a contract negotiator, a position he maintained until 1987 when he decided to take a long-term planning analyst position for Occidental. Retiring from the oil and gas industry in 1989 due to health reasons, Mr. Romano then devoted his life to volunteer work and humanitarian causes.

    With experience in financial related issues, writing reports, and negotiating short- and long-term natural gas contracts and price redeterminations, as well as a host of other responsibilities, some of Mr. Romano's clients included Exxon, Chevron, Shell, Anadarko, Texaco, Mobile, Apache, and Mitchell Energy & Development Corp. His geographical locations included offshore and onshore Texas and Louisiana, where he reported to top management both in Houston and Chicago.

    Throughout his career, Mr. Romano used his analytical skills and realistic perspective as tools to succeed in the business world. He also took numerous courses in both law and negotiation tactics in order to successfully negotiate against attorney's and top management.

    "My entire life, I have always enjoyed helping people," Mr. Romano said about his decision to start volunteering after retirement. "Consequently, my endless quest to assist others compelled me to write a book recently."

    Constantly inspired by his parents, Mr. Romano's mom always served as his guiding light and biggest supporter, while his dad taught him hard work and how to lead by example. Mr. Romano is currently in the last stages of publishing his first book, titled 'Avoiding Cluelessness: One Man's Expeditions in the Dating Jungle'.

    Mr. Romano also plans to do some motivational speaking in the near future. A former board of directors for the Italian Cultural and Community Center from January 1997-2004, he also served as a patient advocate with St. Luke's Hospital and as a peer counselor for the Center for Independent Living. A Competent Toastmaster (CTM), Mr. Romano has given over 100 speeches through the organization over a 15-year period. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business /Accounting from the University of Bloomsburg.
