    Robert J. Mulvihill founded Risk Management and Analysis, Inc. in 1995. Boasting over 37 years of experience in systems analysis of engineering systems with applications to industrial manufacturing, space and military systems, chemical processing, communications, nuclear, coal, gas, and oil power plants, and marine and mining systems.

    As an independent contractor and president of his organization, Mr. Mulvihill does specializes in engineering consulting services with a focus on risk, reliability, and maintenance analysis. Some of his works have included pioneering the application of reliability and risk assessment techniques over the past 30 years to the architect-engineering design process and the safety assessment of NASA interplanetary missions, performing design margin and associated worst case analysis for high reliability electronic systems, applying statistical analysis to the formulation of data in support of engineering model development, applying Bayesian Inference techniques for small data samples, and more. Most recently, he supported NASA Langley in the development of integrated hazards analyses for the successful Ares 1X Demonstration test, including the review of associated First Stage System Design documents for fight control.

    Mr. Mulvihill earned a Bachelor's Degree in Marine Engineering fromSUNY Maritime College in 1950 and a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from MIT in 1951. He then joined the US Navy, serving as a lieutenant from 1955-61. In 1992, he earned his PhD in Engineering from California Coast University. A member of American Society of Mechanical Engineers, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, American Society of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning, and SUNY Maritime College Alumni Association, Mr. Mulvihill has earned numerous awards throughout his schooling, as well as an Excellence Award from NASA Administrator in 1988.
