  • Boulder, CO (1888PressRelease) January 23, 2015 - Fatoumata "Fatou" Doumbia, Founder of Agile International, has been selected as an Honored of the Year Member of the Covington Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry.

    Fatoumata "Fatou" Doumbia's organization, Agile International, just completed its crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo.com to raise $6,000 in infrastructure funds to begin projects that will make a giant leap in improving the balance of power - and the economic self-sufficiency - of women in Mali. Agile (Action to Generate and Integrate the Local Economy) International, a 501(c)(3) organization founded in Boulder, Colorado by a Malian native woman, has a vision to create positive developments in nations that have been negatively affected by structural, international, and climatic forces. Its purpose is to return West Africa to food abundance by empowering local women farmers and restoring the cultural wisdom that underlies traditional sustainable agriculture. Its program provides seeds, tools, land, and education for the women of Mali to grow sustainable organic crops. The funds from this campaign will be used to purchase land, fencing, seed, farm equipment, to dig new wells for water and to provide training to future farmers.

    An integral part of the program involves bringing graduate student interns from Colorado State University to Mali to teach modern organic farming methods, document the progress the women make, and develop an agribusiness model that will be used in other areas of West Africa.

    There have been considerable challenges to overcome for Agile International to reach where it is today. Agile International's founder Mr. Doumbia explains, "As a woman from Mali, I know that the single most important obstacle to increasing agricultural productivity and income generation for women in Mali is land access".

    Doumbia purchased 35 acres of land with her own funds in the Sanankoroba area of Mali, securing a permanent title for the land, then turning it over to the local women to farm for the benefit of their families and community.

    "By buying land and returning it to the hands of women, Agile International is circumventing traditional barriers, which have prevented the fulfillment of any meaningful and sustainable development goals for women in Mali", Mr. Doumbia continues. "In order to provide the funding necessary to expand our program, we have launched a crowd-funding campaign, so that people would have the opportunity to participate within our mission."

    To date, the farm has produced one crop of millet that was used to improve the food supply and local economy of the families involved with the process of growing that crop.

    Though 35 acres is a step in the right direction, there is still a greater need for land, equipment;

    the drilling of wells, seeds, and the expansion of education; with these assets, the women of Mali will be empowered to initiate an economy based on local resource and skill development.

    There are many worthy organizations soliciting for others to support their cause. As we begin 2015, we often think about the ways in which we might make our own lives better. It is a powerful time to take action and support personal causes.

    Agile International strives to help the people of Mali and supports the sustainable development of local food based economies in the areas of the world stricken by the greatest poverty. Please consider taking a moment to learn more about the successes of its project, as well as its plans for the future.

    The crowdfunding campaign ended on January 21, 2015. All of the funds will be directed to finance current infrastructure needs in Mali. Donations in any amount are appreciated. Thanks to your support, we are giving the community of Sanankoroba the means to have healthy, sustainable food sources now and for generations to come. What a great feeling! Thank you!
