May 31, 2007 - "Why not the Philippines too?" Coritha tells Al Gore who is currently involved in preparations for the LIVE EARTH concerts being planned for July this year. Conceived and organized by the former vice-president to raise environmental awareness on a global scale, the concerts will be staged in seven countries and is expected to attract an audience of two billion people. China, Japan, Canada and the United States are some of the countries that will participate in the global event. The Philippines is not part of it.
Describing the countries as first world, the popular Filipino singer-songwriter hopes to have a third world country like the Philippines considered as a venue and balance the representation of countries in the global event and thus give voice to their special environmental concerns "Why limit ourselves to the world super powers?" she says. "And why limit ourselves to the superstars of the west?" The concerts will have some of the biggest stars in the United States perform during the said event.
Besides, Coritha believes she has the song that could very well be the theme song of the LIVE EARTH concerts. Known for her pro-environment songs such as SIERRA MADRE and INANG KALIKASAN, second prize winner in a UN-sponsored songwriting contest, Coritha is offering her new environmental song entitled ONE EARTH as the Filipinos' contribution to the global event.
