CoreSight And Astaro "Unify" To Deliver Threat Management

Until now, Australian IT security specialists CoreSight had no relationships with any of the Unified Threat Management (UTM) vendors, believing that a lack of differentiation led to a commodity market. But the folks at Astaro now have them convinced that the Astaro Security Gateway delivers a complete UTM platform and can make a big positive impact with their clients.

(1888PressRelease) March 12, 2008 - Leading security vendor, Astaro Corporation, has recently agreed to commence a strategic partnership with local IT security specialists CoreSight.

With many awards including “Best Network Security” solution at the SC Magazine European Awards 2007 under its belt, the Astaro Security Gateway provides a full Unified Threat Management (UTM) platform to suit a wide range of user populations and IT environments. And the Astaro Security Gateway is offered in three forms, being an appliance, as a traditional software application, or as a VMware virtual appliance.

Previously CoreSight had not partnered with any of the mainstream perimeter protection vendors, believing that whilst they offered clients some value, that they didn’t offer CoreSight a solution that matched their ethos. CoreSight spokesperson Scott Jackson said, “Part of our rationale behind picking the partners we do is their ability to solve challenging business problems for our clients. We just weren’t convinced that any of the players in this space had been doing that effectively.”

Jackson continued, “The belief inside our business is that through our partnership with Astaro, we can deliver a significantly better outcome to both existing and new clients. It’s not uncommon out on site to see a range of disparate point products that result in an environment that’s almost impossible to manage and correlate. Or to see products out there that have reached the end of their useful life – clients using the Cisco PIX range for example. So we believe that there’s some big wins available to our customers, who with our help can use the Astaro Security Gateway to simplify and improve the key entry points into their internal networks.”

Bryan Stibbard, Astaro Corporation’s regional Vice President (Sales) commented recently, “I'm really looking at partnering with resellers that have a strong mid-market presence, good security knowledge and skills”. And CoreSight’s focus on the security area and their reputation locally makes an ideal fit. Stibbard explained further that, “The Astaro brand is large in Europe, and we have a strong presence in Japan and South-East Asia, but we've never really had people based in Australia”.

Jackson indicated that CoreSight’s first short-term focus in the region would be Cisco PIX customers facing the prospect of a critical piece of their infrastructure becoming unsupported. “Cisco recently announced the end-of-life for their popular PIX appliance line, effectively signalling that product and technology is out of date at best. With users forced to actively pursue a migration path, we want them to understand that there is an option that can provide a more complete solution and cost savings compared to the Cisco ASA path”.

“The VMware appliance version of the product has also started to attract significant interest as organisations and hosting providers continue to explore virtualisation and related technologies”, Jackson continued.

The Astaro Security Gateway is comprised of four modular components and provides the active integration of more security applications than any other UTM product currently available.

The components within the Astaro Security Gateway are:
Network Protection - firewall, VPN, intrusion prevention and P2P control.
Web Filtering - content filter, anti-virus and anti-spyware.
Email Filtering - anti-spam, anti-phishing and anti-virus.
Email Encryption - transparent encryption and digital signatures.
