New Haven-Meriden, CT (1888PressRelease)
March 02, 2009 - Filling the position is Brian Daniels, an MBA candidate in the Yale School of Management’s class of 2010, who will serve a one-year term.
The Connecticut Alliance for Business Opportunities (CABO), Connecticut’s first statewide gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender chamber of commerce, was established in October 2007 to serve as a resource and advocate for Connecticut GLBT-owned and GLBT friendly businesses. Since then, CABO has provided numerous informational and networking events for its members.
“It is vital for a business organization like CABO to have the innovative thinking and energy of tomorrow’s leaders as part of the organization’s leadership structure” said Dena Castricone, the President of the Board and Founder of CABO. “We are fortunate to live and work in a state with high-quality graduate business programs and we are delighted to provide students in those programs the opportunity to work on the board with us.”
Before attending Yale SOM, Daniels worked for ten years on Capitol Hill, most recently serving as Legislative Director to Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI). He is a member of SOM’s Q+ Gay/Straight Alliance and is the incoming co-chair of Net Impact, a student organization that promotes social change through business.
“I am proud to fill this new position and look forward to working with CABO on initiatives to make Connecticut a better environment for GLBT businesses and consumers,” said Daniels. “Yale SOM is committed to the economic development of the New Haven area, and this partnership with CABO emphasizes the school’s mission of ‘educating leaders for business and society.’”
For its next event, CABO is cosponsoring a panel discussion that will address the benefits of including transgender people in the workforce as well as examine the current state of non-discrimination laws in Connecticut. “Good for business: Transgender inclusion in the workplace and the law” will occur on March 2 at 7:00 p.m. in the General Motors Room of 55 Hillhouse Avenue. The event is cosponsored by Yale School of Management’s Q+ Gay/Straight Alliance, the CT Anti-Discrimination Coalition, Loves Makes a Family, CT TransAdvocacy Coalition, Planned Parenthood, and Aetna.
