Portland-Vancouver, OR-WA (1888PressRelease)
May 16, 2008 - On June 14th & 15th, 2008, some very different groups of dogs will come on the field to strut their stuff. Conformation dogs will compete for their 'beauty' titles. Personal Protection dogs will prove their ability to protect their owners. And many dogs - purebred and 'mutts' will have a chance to test their instincts at the ATTS (American Temperament Test Society), whose motto is "a sound mind in a sound body".
Where would all these dogs come together?
Only at the NW Working Dogs Expo.
This is the 2nd annual event for NW Working Dogs and it's shaping up to be a great one. Dogs from all over the Pacific NW will be coming to compete. The Expo offers an NCA (National Canine Association) Conformation show, including a Fila Brasileiro Specialty and an American Pit Bull Terrier Supported Entry.
The K9 Pro Sports NW Regional Trials will be held on Saturday, June 14th. Officiated by Master Trainer Butch Cappel, this competition is the highlight of the season for protection dog competition in the Pacific NW. Dog / handler teams will be vying for Top Dog, working for a leg toward their PPD title, and hoping to secure an invitation to the K9 Pro Sports World Championships in Texas this November. They will also be making a run at the cash prizes awarded to the top scoring dogs in the PPD and PD Divisions.
The weekend also includes the ATTS, an instinct test that measures the soundness of a dog in a variety of situations, from gun shots, umbrellas and strange footing, to handling a threatening stranger. Canine Good Citizen testing will be available throughout the event.
Says Virginia Dunn, the head of NW Working Dogs, "Our ultimate goal is to get people to train their dogs and build a solid bond. We want to break down some myths and let people know that Personal Protection and Conformation are NOT exclusive of each other."
The 2008 NW Working Dogs Expo is being held at the Columbia County Fairgrounds in St. Helens Oregon. Other activities include youth obedience, and a Raffle For Rescue. Donations are being actively sought to benefit dogs in need. Visit the raffle page for more information at: http://nwworkingdogs.com/rescueraffle.htm
Vendors and sponsors are invited to participate, particularly those promoting healthy products such as raw dog foods, holistic pet care, etc.
Pre-registration is highly recommended. This is one unique event that should not be missed. There truly is nothing else like it on the West Coast.
