November 06, 2007 - CONCORD, North Carolina – The Concord Butterfly Life, a first-of-its-kind revolutionary new 30-minute fitness franchise designed specifically for women to achieve a healthier overall body and mind, recently became an affiliate with the local chapter of the Susan G. Komen foundation. Throughout the month of October club owner, Nicole Cooper, coordinated a fundraiser for breast cancer. Staples donated all of the printing supplies for pink ribbons. The club, located at 354 George W Liles Parkway Suite 20, sold pink ribbons for $5 each and hung them in the club windows. The fundraiser has raised $300 so far and the club windows are becoming a sea of pink.
Cooper also had members put a colored star on a poster if they personally had been affected by breast cancer. Ladies placed a silver star on the poster for each person they know that has been affected by breast cancer. “It was a real eye opener for the ladies, and yet it was a silent way of showing how many women are affected by the disease,” said Cooper.
The Butterfly Life franchise hopes to reach their goal of $500 to donate to the foundation. Over the last year, Cooper began to realize how much breast cancer touched the women in her community. One of Cooper’s members was personally afflicted with the disease. She shared her journey of the disease from the time she was diagnosed, through a full mastectomy, chemotherapy, and recovery all while exercising at Butterfly Life. “She had a wonderful support team here at Butterfly Life, who even helped her pick out wigs, in various styles and colors when she lost her hair,” said Cooper. “She credits her strong recovery to Butterfly Life, because in between treatments she was able to modify her workout, but still keep her muscles strong. Her doctors were amazed at how quickly she bounced back, after each of four different surgeries.”
