June 06, 2009 - Comtrol supplies BroadPort 550 to Quantel, who specialise in server-based newsroom systems. Quantel chose to use BroadPort 550 to provide an effective solution to monitoring and controlling a large number and wide range of serial based peripherals in broadcast studios. Quantel’s latest sQ video server technology which supports VDCP, for broadcast playout is linked to the video disc unit by the BroadPort 550.
BroadPort 550 provides Quantel with the following benefits and features:
• Supports up to 16 serial ports controlled from one PC host. This saves space and power in cramped central machine rooms.
• The connector panel can be rear mounted in standard (19 inch) equipment racks and is easy to access if configuration changes are required.
• The BroadPort 550 provides drivers for Windows Server 2003 and XP which helps maintain continuous 24 hour per day operation.
• Offers a wide operational temperature range and MTBF of over 30 years, which is essential for use in live 24-hour broadcasting environments.
BroadPort 550 has proved a success with Quantel’s broadcast customers, after a three month period of evaluation by the Quantel’s engineers it is now released and in use by Quantel in USA, Canada and Europe.
