CompassLearning Announces New Odyssey High School Program

New solution developed by CompassLearning experts to run on popular Odyssey management system and include robust reporting and assessment features.

Austin-San Marcos, TX (1888PressRelease) April 25, 2008 - CompassLearning, leading provider of customized education technology solutions, today announced a new program to support secondary mainstream, credit-recovery, and intervention students. The new CompassLearning High School product will leverage the strength of the management, reporting and assessment features of the company’s awardwinning Odyssey solution. Eight core subjects will be available beginning in Summer 2008: English I, English II, Geometry, Algebra I, Biology, Physical Science, U.S. History (1850–present), and U.S. Government.

“We recognized a need for a research-based secondary solution that combined engaging curriculum with sophisticated assessment and reporting features”, said Eric Loeffel, President of CompassLearning. “Our Odyssey solution has proven to be a valuable tool for increasing student performance and we are excited to extend this advantage to the high school market.”

Administrators, teachers and students will benefit from the engaging, informative, and easy to use materials. All activities are scaffolded to provide support for students as they work through the instructional content. Critical concepts are reviewed and repeated as necessary while students are introduced to new material.

Each language arts, mathematics, and science course features a customcreated Critical Mistakes Matrix™. The Critical Mistakes Matrix identifies the most common mistakes students make on standardized assessments and is the basis for instructional activities which teach students strategies to avoid these common mistakes in each subject.

Designed to engage and motivate high school students, courses are comprised of activities designed specifically to support secondary learners:

• Direct instruction by master teachers via high-quality video lectures
• Flash-based, interactive instruction that teaches and reviews concepts in a variety of instructional formats
• A teen-friendly, conversational style to capture and hold students’ attention
• Activities that are broken into small sections to maintain students’ attention and to reinforce unfamiliar concepts
• Glossaries of terms that are pronounced, defined, and in some cases illustrated to support students with academic language
• Writing activities and worksheets that encourage critical-thinking and study skills
• A customized “toolkit” for each subject
• Quizzes, tests, and scored activities that provide ongoing feedback to the student and teacher
