September 04, 2009 - NEWARK, N.J. - On Monday, August 31, the Community Financial Education Foundation hosted Financial Literacy Night at the Newark Bears game.
During the event, CFEF distributed 400 tool kits and 100 copies of Quicken software. Executive Director Miranda Harwell threw out the first pitch. CFEF advisors were on hand to answer questions from Bears fans and advise them on the merits of financial responsibilities. In addition, three lucky fans were picked to answer multiple-choice financial questions in between innings. All three fans answered correctly and were awarded four free tickets to a Newark Bears game of their choice.
“The event was a tremendous success,” said Harwell. “We will definitely plan to utilize sporting events like this one to reach out to consumers.”
The goal of the evening was to not only provide information and resources to individuals, but ultimately further the economic advancement of underserved communities in the Newark, NJ.All CFEF events are free and open to the public. CFEF hopes participants will leave with tools to better save, manage and budget personal finances.
“Education is power and informed Americans will make more sound financial decisions and live better lives. Our goal is to turn financial fear into financial freedom.” said Harwell.

Launched in 2008, the Washington, D.C.-based Community Financial Education Foundation (CFEF) mission is to educate the American public and reach underserved communities by teaching meaningful financial life skills, encouraging positive financial behaviors, and providing access to outcome-based, educational resources over the long-term.
