February 14, 2008 - Chanting missionary Dr. Kurt “Kailash” Bruder’s new book was named “Best in Show” by New Age Retailer at the January 2008 International New Age Trade Show (INATS) East. Kailash has vowed to bring the bliss and multidimensional benefits of devotional chanting to as many people as possible, and is launching a multi-state tour to promote the practice on the heels of the INATS honor. “The difference between me and other missionaries is that I don’t tell folks Who to worship, just that they should do it with all of their heart, mind, soul, and strength! It’s in the practice of devotion that we encounter Real God(ess), by whatever name or form.”
Kailash believes chanting makes the best use of our love of pleasure, and aligns heart and mind with innate perfections and a sense of God. By redirecting desires in this way, practitioners can create a shortcut to ecstasy. Kailash contends that the ancient practice of chanting is uniquely effective in today’s world not only because it quiets the overly-distracted modern mind, but because it also connects us to others, opens our hearts, and fosters positive emotions like serenity and joy.
Kailash has combined his background as a scholar-teacher in communications and counseling with his life-long investigation into a wide variety of religious traditions to create "Following Sound into Silence: Chanting Your Way Beyond Ego into Bliss". Kailash pays special attention to making devotional chanting accessible and conceptually comfortable for people of all faiths. He encourages participants/readers to adapt practices to their own needs in support of personal spiritual commitments. The beautifully illustrated book and accompanying CD are infused with inspirational information about the history, essential elements and benefits of chanting, as well as practical exercises and moving music to help readers develop their own chanting practice.
