  • Washington, DC-MD-VA-WV (1888PressRelease) June 30, 2011 - CommonWealth One is pleased to announce its 2011 Kathryn R. Coleman Scholarship winners: Ms. Emily Hutt from Spotswood High School and Ms. Kierra Gambrell from Virginia Commonwealth University. CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union has awarded two $1,000 scholarships each year for more than 20 years to help student members pursue a higher education. In 2006, the scholarship was named to honor CommonWealth One's former President and CEO, Kathryn R. Coleman, a well-known and respected figure in the credit union movement for almost 40 years.

Three judges rated scholarship applicants on their grade point averages, essay entries, community involvement and extra-curricular activities to determine this year's winners. Ms. Hutt hopes to major in biology at the University of Virginia, and pursue a career in neurological medicine. Ms. Gambrell is majoring in Criminal Justice, and minoring in Spanish. Her goal is to be a juvenile criminal defense lawyer in the Washington D.C. Metro area. Congratulations to both winners, and the best of luck in their future endeavors.
