March 21, 2007 - The Spazz is one of Colours N Motion’s best selling wheelchairs. Its popularity is due to its lightweight and sleek frame and the fact that it can be custom modified and designed. But Colours wanted to prove that the Spazz is not just cool looking, it is also tough.
In order to demonstrate the strength and durability of its Spazz wheelchair, Colours sponsored a voluntary crash test. Scientists knowledgeable in the design and development of injury assessment tools such as anthropomorphic test devices (crash dummies), computer models, and associated injury criteria put the wheelchair through a test designed to Ansi/Resna WC/19 specifications, the industry standard in crash testing.
With a crash test dummy strapped in the Spazz Wheelchair, the researchers simulated an impact of 30 miles per hour (48kph). The researchers concluded that the crash test dummy was effectively restrained and that the Spazz wheelchair met all requirements for wheelchair dynamic strength.
John Box, President of Colours said, “Although special optional brackets must be installed on a Spazz to hold it safely during an impact, this crash test proved that the Spazz is a tough wheelchair and meets or exceeds industry standards for performance.”
