March 23, 2009 - Code Red, LLC is aware of new legislation that is being passed in Illinois regarding Automated External Defibrillators (AED). When these new laws are being passed it emulates the importance of these life saving devices. Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) kills more than 1,300 a day and the survival rate is only 5%. With AEDs and properly trained individuals on site in all public and private areas we can decrease these frightening numbers.
On Thursday, March 19, 2009 the NBC Chicago News came out with a news report entitled, “Shock Value,” regarding AEDs. They gave you an insight of how important an AED is and actual survival stories. There are no signs of SCA and an AED should be widely available whether it is at your church, health club or a building you pass on your way to work. The most common place for SCA is away from a hospital. That is why it is so critical that most places have one on site.
Code Red is direct distributors for Defib Tech, Philips, Cardiac Science and Medtronic. We offer beginning to end service: from the initial sale of an AED to its placement, training, maintenance, follow-up training, post event documentation review as well as meeting with staff to discuss any event. We want to help individuals and corporations manage these new strict legislations by providing cost efficient devices with proper training and maintenance. Legislation currently does not make it mandatory for private buildings to have an AED. However, with an increase in stricter legislation the probability of one day making it mandatory is high.
Brian Leonard, President and CEO of Code Red stated that, “The Company offers CPR and AED training for both individuals and corporations.” He further went on to state the importance of training and knowledge in Chicago because, “The average ambulance response time is over 15 minutes and the average survival rate from cardiac arrest is only 2%.” As Legislations are becoming stricter and are requiring training and AEDs to be mandatory in many public and private facilities, Code Red is prepared to meet the challenges of setting up and maintaining individual and corporate and municipal programs revolving around sudden cardiac arrest.
