August 22, 2007 - With striking angles and dramatic perspective, Daniel Horacio Aguirre paints cityscapes that express mood, emotion and human experience as gracefully as a portrait. Aguirre lives and works in La Boca, a colorful, dynamic barrio. Aguirre says, "When I work, I express in every picture what I grew up with, the colors, the flavors, everything I used to see as I was growing up reflects my cultural origin."
Aguirre uses a flat perspective and vibrant colors to enhance the feeling of motion in his canvases. Looking at his work, the viewer is granted emotional access to the scene—the barrio appears to the viewer alternately as vivid with colorful life or somber in dark quietude. Aguirre has captured a sense of place so skillfully that his viewer can experience every nuance of his artistry. These are the works and stories of home, a home the viewer is free to make their own, and created in paint, it is a home that one can always go back to.
