Chuck Maldonado Talks About his Dance and Choreographer Career with JigTV.com

In an interview with social dance website JigTV.com, Chuck Maldonado spoke of his participation in a wide variety of dance events, from working on TV shows and commercials to choreographing the Olympics and doing motion-capture work for animated films.

Denver, CO (1888PressRelease) March 11, 2009 - Chuck Maldonado started his interview on JigTV.com by recounting his history of dancing, which started while he was a high school Spanish teacher in Atlanta. While teaching, he was perusing his dancing career as part of the Atlanta Hawks dance team. While dancing with the Hawks, he met Lisa"Left-Eye" Lopes from the R&B group TLC, who recognized his talents. His dance career launched from there and he hasn't looked back since.

His first big break came after he auditioned as a stepper in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. He didn't get the job as a stepper because shortly after his audition he got a call offering him a position of assistant choreographer. After his first foray into choreography at the Olympics, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue professional dancing and choreography full time.

"I think that LA is definitely the place to be if you want to be a professional dancer; there are a lot of great people here," he said, then added with a chuckle"as long as you don't get caught up in the wrong things."

Another venture Chuck has been a part of is animated films. He has done motion capture work for the movies Garfield and Shark Tale, as well as choreography on Shark Tale. He said he would just dance in the center of a circle of animators who would be sketching madly, as well as being filmed for closer study later.

Chuck teaches a lot, including hip hop dance classes, and says what he enjoys most is helping others have the chance he had, to become a dancer. "That is the most rewarding thing to me, to bring someone up and also allow them to be dancers and choreographers of the future," he said.
