Chinese-Funded Venture Capital Investment Grows

Venture capital investment by Chinese-funded institutions augmented by 186.1 per cent in the year's third quarter, it has been reported.

(1888PressRelease) November 23, 2007 - Venture capital investment by Chinese-funded institutions augmented by 186.1 per cent in the year's third quarter, it has been reported.

In all, 38 contracts were signed over the period involving $907.1 million, a report by domestic financial consulting service provider China Venture shows.

As a result, Chinese-funded and foreign-funded venture capital investment in the country now stands at $1.1 billion, up 44.3 per cent from the second quarter.

However, Liu Liang, a senior analyst with China Venture and one of the writers of the report, believes that Chinese-funded institutions in the venture capital sector still have a lot to learn, and that the sector is still in its infancy.

"Although the growth of Chinese-funded institutions in venture capital investment has gained momentum, they lag behind foreign competitors in terms of experience, fund scales and professionalism," he told Xinhua.

Investment has shifted from high-tech industry to traditional industries such as franchised business, education, manufacturing, media and entertainment and energy industries the study found.
