September 26, 2007 - Childers Sotheby’s International Realty hosted its Second Annual Jersey Shore Tennis Open Tournament at the Toms River Country Club on July 28th which raised over $5,000 for Dottie’s House and more than doubled the amount raised from the 2006 tennis tournament.
The event was preceded by a “draw party” at the Club, where more than 35 tennis players, as well as sponsors and volunteers, helped raise funds for Dottie’s House, which provides long-term transitional housing for women and children who have survived domestic violence.
The tennis tournament was held Saturday, July 28th, featuring both men’s and women’s double play. Both events ran smoothly thanks to the expertise of Adrienne Ballingall, Tennis and Membership Director of Toms River Country Club. The winners, with the most games won for the tournament, were Lori Hofstetter and Maggie Scott for women’s doubles, and Brian Lewis and Craig Wood for men’s doubles.
The idea for this event came from Lee Childers, owner of Childers Sotheby’s International Realty, and is supported by staff from all four Childers Sotheby’s offices, which are located in Point Pleasant Beach, Bay Head, Normandy Beach, and Lavallette/ Ortley Beach.
“Because of Lee’s generosity and spirit of community, Moms and their children are living safely and happily and free from the fear of violence,” said Carol Wolfe, Dottie’s House Founder and Executive Director.
In addition to Childers Sotheby’s International Realty, Dottie’s House would like to thank the players and all of our supporters and donors, especially the Court Sponsors: Bart & Bart, CPAs, Chase Home Finance LLC, Homes Now, Inc., Lafayette General Title Agency, Inc., OceanFirst Foundation and Toms River Country Club.
Nine apartments were recently added to Dottie’s House more than doubling its previous capacity to house and provide services for 17 families for up to two years, offering them the tools needed to break the chain of family violence and become emotionally and financially independent. Dottie’s House is the only long-term, second stage facility offering transitional housing and supportive services under one roof in New Jersey.
Looking to the future, the Spring Lake Theatre will be presenting “Camelot” on August 18th, with proceeds benefiting Dottie’s House. To purchase tickets or to learn more about Dottie’s House, please call (732) 295-7380, or visit our website at www.dottieshouse.org.
