Chicago, IL (1888PressRelease)
May 06, 2009 - Chicago area residents can help the planet, help the needy and help their own pocketbooks by shopping at Winnetka Congregational Church’s annual rummage sale on May 14 at the Winnetka Community House.
Rummage sales are in vogue these days. They are the ultimate in “green” shopping since all of the merchandise being sold is to be re-used or re-purposed. And, as more people struggle to make ends meet in today’s economy, rummage sales provide a way to obtain quality merchandise at a much reduced cost. Finally, the proceeds of this rummage sale will be donated to over 40 Chicago area social service agencies. None of the money goes to the church.
The rummage sale, now in its 77th consecutive year, has had the distinction of being the Guinness Book of Records largest one-day rummage sale in the world, and raises over $200,000. The sale has over 600 volunteers working in 31 departments, offering clothing, furniture, china and glassware, books, toys, electronics, jewelry and antiques. It attracts shoppers by the busload from as far away as Indiana and Wisconsin.
This year’s rummage sale will take place on Thursday, May 14 from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Winnetka Community House, 620 Lincoln Ave. in Winnetka. For more information visit www.wccrummage.com or call 847-446-0575.
