  • (1888PressRelease) June 22, 2016 - Following a steady month on month increase over the past 2 years, Recruitive's multi-job posting software recorded the highest ever number of catering job vacancies advertised in May, suggesting that the shortage of chefs is still ongoing.

Richard Clarke, Managing Director at Recruitive comments; "Whilst the UK restaurant scene is booming, our figures suggest that the shortage of chefs is still a very prevalent issue and one which shows no signs of slowing down. Not only have we seen an increase in the number of vacancies advertised, we have also experienced a decrease in the average number of candidates applying for the positions which is very concerning."

Lee Vitali, Director of specialist Job Board, The Chef House, believes there are a number of factors contributing to the shortage: "The number of restaurants within the UK continues to increase and there are not enough trained chefs to meet the demand. We also have a lack of students entering the industry and this is not helped by TV cooking shows not always portraying kitchen culture in the best of lights."
