February 06, 2009 - Chateau de Bangkok recently implemented a flex-rates plan which offers big discounts to consumers that choose to have less flexibility in their hotel bookings, to critical acclaim and consumer delight.
The Flex rate program saves guests at the hotel up to 50% on their room booking, if they choose not to have the option to change or cancel their booking. The Flex system at this Bangkok luxury hotel is split into Flex+ , Flex, and Flex- rates. Under the system:
• Flex+ (plus) rates allow unlimited changes and cancellations. There is no cancellation charge up to two days prior to arrival, check-in is 2pm and check out is 12 noon.
• Flex (standard) rates can be changed and cancelled, however fees and charges may apply.
• Flex- (minus) rates are charged the full price in advance, which is not refundable. However, these rates offer up to 50% savings off Flex+ rates.
At current rates, a one-king bed studio room can cost 4760THB (USD 136 at current rates) for certain dates, for full change and cancellation privileges. The same room, at Flex- rates, costs only 2395 THB (USD68 at current rates), representing just under a 50% saving.
Reviewers have been quick to acclaim the hotel's idea, which is now applicable to all hotels managed by the Accor team. Guillame Thevenot, hotel reviewer, says of the rates, "I believe this is quite a good initiative and is definitely a major improvement from the long list of hotel rates that users could find with hotel chains websites in the past".
Thevenot believes that hotels should "Make it simple and your consumers will come back to book direct with you", like Chateau de Bangkok.
Chateau de Bangkok has also won consumer acclaim in the past, beating out up to a dozen higher-priced hotels on respected hotel review sites like TripAdvisor. On the site, 30% of travellers who ranked Chateau de Bangkok gave it the highest possible rating - five out of five. A further 40% gave the hotel four out of five stars.
