March 25, 2008 - The Prius is a hybrid car that has a synergy drive, which means that the engine has a combination of two types of engines— a 1.5-liter, four-cylinder, Atkinson cycle gasoline engine and an electric drive motor.
The gasoline engine has an output of 76 horsepower with 82 lb ft of torque. It is fitted with variable valve timing with intelligence (VVT-i), a technology that helps to dispense and optimize power across the engines. The alternative motor fitted in the car, a permanent-magnet electric drive, produces a power of 67 horsepower. When the gas engine and electric motors combine, the Prius produces 110 horsepower.
The Prius has a 106.3-inch wheelbase, because of which it gets good interior space as well as a smooth ride. It is an aerodynamically-designed vehicle. Its very low coefficient of drag (Cd) rating of 0.26, minimizes its fuel consumption and interior noise.
The 2008 Toyota Prius has many safety features, some of which are: anti-lock brake system; dual front air bags; three-point seatbelts for all rear-seating positions; front seatbelts with pretensioners and force limiters; driver and front passenger seat-mounted side air bags; front and rear side-curtain air bags; vehicle stability control and electronic brake-force distribution.
