Phoenix-Mesa, AZ (1888PressRelease)
March 16, 2007 - It was recently announced that right near the popular Chandler Fashion Center, an urban village of retail projects, restaurants, offices, as well as 342 condominiums will be constructed. The entire village has been valued at over $100 million dollars.
This new urban village is being called the Metropolitan of Chandler, and is designed specifically to attract people who want to have their living, working, and recreational space all within a short distance of one another.
The Metropolitan of Chandler will include 100,000 square feet of commercial space. It will be located on the west side of the Chandler mall, wrapping its way around the Windmill Inn, across from Nordstrom.
Tempe developer Spike Laurence of Lawrence & Geyser declared “it’s very urban…Everyone uses the Kierland Commons comparison, and I hate to do that, but it’s residential over retail, and you drive down the middle of it.”
The Metropolitan of Chandler project is a partnership between Lawrence & Geyser and Statesman Corp. It will encompass twelve buildings that range from one to six stories in height. They include a clubhouse, spa, pool, and upscale fashion boutiques.
The Planning and Zoning Commission approved of the project last week, and it will now go to the City Council. If approved by the City Council, the development will also include approximately 1,100 underground parking spaces to accommodate the residents and visitors to the area.
The condominiums will range from 800 square feet to 2,500, and will be priced between $250,000 and $450,000. They will be made up primarily of studio and one- and two-bedroom units.
It is the intention of the developers to break ground in 2007 for a completion of the project within the next two to three years.
It is for this same kind of potential – the appeal to a different class of companies – that has brought about such developments as this and the online Chandler mall that recently opened
