  • Fort Lauderdale, FL (1888PressRelease) June 18, 2014 - This fall public school students from Kindergarten through Fifth Grade will have an opportunity to attend CHAMPS Charter School of Delray Beach, FL. Charter schools are public schools that charge no tuition.

The school will be located at the corner of Congress Avenue and Lake Ida Road. The first open house event is scheduled for July 2nd, 2014, at 6:30 p.m. The new school will open August 18, 2014; parents are encouraged to apply now at www.champscs.org.

Joseph Russo, President of CHAMPS Charter Schools is excited about the new opening. "We have worked long and hard to get this school underway. We now have another opportunity to provide parents with more educational choice for their children." While charter schools are overseen by the school district, they have the flexibility and freedom to engage in new and unique learning techniques public schools may not be able to offer.

CHAMPS stands for "Caring, Honest, Academically Motivated, Positive, Students." Russo said, "We will offer an appealing curriculum that actively engages students. This environment will foster all of the attributes for which our school stands."

The CHAMPS in Delray Beach is specifically designed to be a small, community-oriented school with not more than 160 students. Russo continued, "Most schools are so large students feel they are 'just a number;' they lose their sense of identity. We feel CHAMPS schools will provide students, faculty and staff with a close-knit learning environment. We want our faculty and staff to know each student and identify with their cares and concerns on an individual basis."

CHAMPS is committed to a strong program of character development and personal worth; school leadership calls it " Focus 5." Russo explained, "We believe that our focus on moral values, character development, leadership skills, social growth, and intellectual development will better equip all of our students for a world of constant change and uncertainty."
