(1888PressRelease) April 11, 2008 - Champagne – Vallée De La Marne will showcase six Champagne producers from the region at the London International Wine and Spirits Fair (LIWSF), which will be held from 20 to 22 May 2008. The winegrowers, who will be at stand J20, are seeking partners for the British market. Visitors will have a chance to sample the champagnes, alongside a selection of regional produce, at 12.30pm on 21 May.

The Marne Valley includes over 10% of the vineyards that qualify for the Champagne designation. These vineyards, which grow on the sun-exposed hillsides of the banks of the Marne and nearby valleys up and downstream from Château Thierry, have a terroir that is renowned for the high quality of its Pinot Meunier grapes and the distinctive fragrance of its Chardonnay grapes.

On the occasion of the 2008 LIWSF, the Champagne – Vallée de la Marne stand will present a wide selection of fruity, flavourful Champagnes, which are blended from the three grape varieties found in the region – Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. There will also be some oaked and unmeasured vintages, as well as Purs Meunier vintages. These Champagnes all offer very good value for money.

The Champagne estates on the stand are family-run vineyards, with generations of experience in production techniques and an established reputation within France. The Marne Valley Champagne producers are now actively developing their export business.

Champagne Sourdet Diot enjoys ideal sun conditions

The Sourdet-Diot family has been growing wine on its estate at La Chapelle Monthodon, in the heart of the Marne Valley terroir, since 1980. The eight-hectare vineyard enjoys ideal sun exposure, allowing the grape to mature and champagne to be developed in the best conditions.

The estate’s Cuvée de Réserve Brut Champagne (Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay) is enhanced by a dominant Pinot Meunier and by its four-year ageing process in the cellars. The Rosé Brut stems from the three grape varieties and is produced with about 10% of red Champagne wine. The Millésime 2002 Brut (Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir) is only developed after an exceptional harvest, and offers a balance between the sugar content and the wine’s natural bitterness.

Champagne Bourgeois – Diaz offers five generations of expertise

The Bourgeois family has been running its seven-hectare estate on the western tip of the Marne Valley for five generations. Its vines are located on hillsides with south and south-west exposure, and the Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier vines, which are aged at least 20 years, yield quality grapes for the development of fine Champagnes.

The Millésime (50% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Noir) is refined and elegant, with a fragrance of ripened yellow fruit highlighted with a shade of oakiness. The Cuvée du Fils (40% Pinot Meunier, 30% Pinot noir and 30% Chardonnay, with half of it coming from oak-cask-raised wine) displays a golden tint and is warm and elegant, with a perfectly blended oakiness.

Champagne Claude Baron keeps up family traditions

Claude and Régine Baron, with the help of their three daughters, are continuing the family tradition. Their estate covers 10 hectares that grow Pinot Meunier, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, the three champagne grapes. This vineyard is located upon the sunny hillsides of the Marne Valley. The pleasant and delicate wines are made mainly with Pinot Meunier, which reflects the winegrowers’ desire to exploit the full potential of this grape – Champagne’s oldest grape variety.

The Cuvée Saphir Brut (80% Pinot Meunier, 10% Pinot Noir and 10% Chardonnay) is a Champagne for all occasions. The Cuvée Perle Rose Brut (40% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Meunier and 30% Pinot Noir) is a blended rosé and an ideal companion for any meal.

Champagne ROBERDELPH creates wines with passion

The RoberDelph Champagne House is a family-run business renowned for its Pinot Meunier Champagne vintages. Producers Denis and Vincent Robert are now looking to market their quality vintages in the UK.

The Brut Tradition (75% Pinot Meunier, 9% Pinot Noir and 16% Chardonnay) is suited to any occasion. The Cuvée Prestige – Cœur de Cuvée Millésimé 2002 (62% Pinot Meunier, 10% Pinot Noir and 28% Chardonnay) is RoberDelph’s finest Champagne and consists of wine from a single year, selected among the best at pressing time during the grape harvest.

Champagne Jean Comyn Ltd offers a unique partnership in AOC Champagne

Located in Mont-Saint-Père in the heart of the Marne Valley, Champagne Jean Comyn Ltd is a producer offering a wide range of Champagne. Vintners for three generations, the Comyn family currently farm 40 hectares of AOC Champagne vineyards in partnership with three other local families (with ‘AOC’ standing for ‘Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée’). This four-family partnership facilitates vintage diversity. The three Champagne grape varieties are grown.

The Champagne Symphonie Millésimé Brut 2002 (61% Chardonnay, 23% Pinot Noir and 16% Pinot Meunier) has a distinctive touch of candied exotic fruit, as well as fresh honey and stone fruit. The Champagne Rosé Brut (35% Chardonnay, 14% Pinot Noir and 51% Pinot Meunier, including 13% of both Pinots vinified in red) reveals notes of wild strawberry and redcurrant.
