July 09, 2009 - Central Basin Municipal Water District has recently announced a new “Shut Your Tap” campaign aimed at conserving water in the state of California. Central Basin’s main focus is being able to look into the future of the nation’s water supply and offer assistance to cities, towns and districts with water supply and management incentive programs.
Southern California’s water supply is depleting more and more each and every year and Central Basin has put forth a serious effort in order prevent the state of California from virtually running out of water. Population numbers are continuously growing every year but global resources are not. Shut Your Tap! day was officially declared in May, but plans of introducing this campaign in other ways are already in the works. Central Basin took a very confident and aggressive stance during Water Awareness month by making their signature poster promoting water conservation visible on almost all local communication channels including community newsletters, city websites, and local cable stations. They have even launched a Shut Your Tap section on their website in order to provide education and resources on how the community can help out by conserving on water use and consumption every single day. Little things like a person shortening their shower time by just one or two minutes or by using a broom to clean a sidewalk instead of a water hose.
Central Basin’s website is an excellent resource to teach and guide everyone from local residents to municipality leaders on the importance of water and how people and communities can put their efforts together in order for everyone to have a better future. With so many changes in today’s weather, climate and resources it is important for everyone to take a proactive stance on our water supply. The goal of this campaign is to get all cities to come aboard and spread awareness of the importance of nature’s most important natural resource, H2O. Central Basin realizes that it is important for all cities and towns to get involved in this type initiative. There are many ways to conserve on water supply, many ways people don’t even think about. Water has become one of those things that everyone expects to be there when they turn the faucet on to cook, shower or just brush their teeth. Communities across the world need to get on the same page when it comes to water conservation.
Central Basin Municipal Water District is a public agency that purchases imported water from the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD).Water Reservoir Central Basin wholesales the imported water to cities, mutual water companies, investor-owned utilities and private companies in southeast Los Angeles County. (Imported water is transported through the expansive Colorado River Aqueduct system and from Northern California.) Central Basin also supplies water used for groundwater replenishment and provides the region with recycled water for municipal, commercial and industrial use.
