February 05, 2008 - Celebrity Chef, Marvin Woods, owner of Woods on South (formerly South End Brewery), and author of The New Low Country Cooking, will showoff his culinary skills at the 4th Annual "Cooking Gents of Charlotte" hosted by The Charlotte Volunteers in Medicine Clinic and Executive Director, Donna Murray Lacey (2007 Pride Award Winner). "I'm so excited to have Chef Marvin Woods to be a part of this event. He understands the clinic's mission and is a staunch supporter of what we do. This year's event will be the best by far!" says Lacey. The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 16, 2008 from 6PM-9PM at The Levine Museum of the New South.
This fundraiser for the CVIM is designed to promote awareness of Charlotte's hidden crisis: nearly 120,000 residents who do not have access to healthcare because they are uninsured.
Approximately 500 guests are expected to attend and will enjoy dishes prepared by chefs from the following participating restaurants: Mert's Heart & Soul, Charleston House, Down to the Bone, and LaWan's as well as others in the Queen City. Sponsors will include OrthoCarolina, Coca-Cola, and Compare Foods. Community partners and media partners will be WBAV-101.9FM, American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, Blue Bell Ice Cream and Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation. Door prizes will be sponsored by Nakato Japanese restaurant, Coco Osteria and Long Horn Steakhouse.
This event will showcase culinary skills of some of the best male chefs in Charlotte! You don't want to miss out on this great cooking event! Chefs should prepare a dish of their choice and provide decorations for their table with their individual theme. Dishes will serve as a tax deductible donation to the CVIM. Each sponsor and participant will be recognized in promotional ads on television, radio, print media, and our printed event program. Space is limited, contact The Main Event to register at 704-332-5819. All proceeds from the event will support patient care at the Charlotte Volunteers in Medicine Clinic, located in the Greenville Recreation Center, 1330 Spring Street Charlotte, NC 28206.
We personally extend an invitation to all local media mediums to come out and cover this wonderful event to give the CVIM the positive publicity they deserve for being such a great addition to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Community.
