Celebrate 145 years of the "Gettysburg Address" at Lone Fir Cemetery in S.E. Portland on Saturday, November 15 starting at 9:00am

The Friends of History at PSU and the Oregon Lincoln Bicentennial Commission will commemorate the 145th Anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's delivery of the Gettysburg Address on Saturday, November 15, 2008 with a free, two-part program at PSU and Lone Fir Cemetery.


Portland-Vancouver, OR-WA (1888PressRelease) November 12, 2008 - PART ONE: Recreation of the "GETTYSBURG ADDRESS"
will be presented "live" at Lone Fir Pioneer Cemetery in Southeast Portland. PSU Vice Provost Mike Burton will kick off the ceremonies.
DATE: November 15, 2008
PLACE: Lone Fir Cemetery
ADDRESS: S.E. 21st and Morrison
TIME: 9:00 am -11:30am
Union soldier reenactors (Sons of Union Veterans)will be in full battle gear, an authentic military band will be playing Civil War Music, a 21 gun salute, and Lincoln presenter Steve Holgate will recite the Gettysburg Address at 10:00am.
Daughters of Union veterans will lay wreaths and there will be the playing of "Taps". After the program, guided tours will be led by "Living Historians" of Lone Fir showing where the Civil War Veterans are buried.

PART TWO: THE STORY BEHIND GETTYSBURG & the "GETTYSBURG ADDRESS" at PSU

Professor emeritus Elliott Trommald will explain the
meaning of Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. "Battle of
Gettysburg" video will be shown.
