July 23, 2007 - Cebu Creative Learning Systems announces the addition of more educational courses and resources offered by the tutorial center. The globally-recognized center, servicing more than a thousand clients each year all over the world through their at-home specialty tutorials, and online tutorials, has added a Call Center Module, and Foreign Languages Module to meet the demands of an ever-growing network of clients.
Aside from this, to champion their community extension mission and vision, CCLS is also currently working with foster care agencies to provide timely academic remediation for those Cebuanos who cannot afford to provide academic reinforcement to their children. It has now collaborated with social service agencies, foster parents, case workers, schools and non-for-profit organizations while providing tutoring services for special needs or at-risk children and adults.
The company currently provides a solution to the ongoing problem educators continue to experience: overcoming the learning gap with foster care students. They will work with any foster care agency in the Philippines to provide academic remediation to their youth. CCLS assists agencies with tracking capability by following their students (foster children) to any area of the country so that the tutoring CCLS provides does not cease. This is one way Cebu Creative Learning Systems helps to alleviate the learning gap experienced by the children and youth. The average child in foster care will transfer to different families and different schools an average of 8 to 10 times until they reach adulthood, a fact known, documented and witnessed by Oscar Fudalan Jr., Managing Director of Cebu Creative Learning Systems.
Foster children constantly struggle with having to adjust to different educational expectations, curricula and educators. This creates a need for the school systems to provide additional attention and tutoring for the students, however, the schools fall short in most cases as they are not equipped or financed to provide the special care these children deserve. Funding is a critical issue nationwide. Although, Philippine legislation provides for some of the foster kids attending poor performing public schools, however, it leaves behind the majority that does not qualify for funding. Then, it is up to the foster care agencies or other organizations to pick up the tab and find other resources to accommodate their children and youth's ever-growing educational needs.
Cebu Creative Learning Systems continually sees many of the students who receive tutoring through their organization, making significant progress within a short period of time. A study of twenty-one 4th graders showed an increase of two grade levels of reading within one year of study at 2 hours per week. Many of their high school students do graduate, a much different outlook than national studies provide. Most often foster care parents do not have to pay for the tutoring sessions offered by CCLS. The foster care agencies or other charitable organizations usually will pay for services that are deemed to be necessary by the school or case manager. Once Cebu Creative is contacted and hired by a foster care agency, they provide pre, interim and post assessments, monthly progress reports and constant communication between the tutor, school and case manager.
Oscar Fudalan Jr. states as a reminder to all that education is not a luxury, it is a necessity. Foster care children will not be left behind when given the opportunity to access all resources available to them.
