May 04, 2007 - This forecast hinges on the fact that the amount of farmland in Western Europe will shrink by 5% in the coming decade, thus affecting application of fertilizers.
However, the yield of main horticultural products will continue to rise, which will offset the decrease in the amount of farmland. Farmland under wheat will expand by 8% over the decade, which will drive the use of nitrogenous fertilizers up.
Other crops will exhibit drop in fertilizer application. This will become more evident in the majority of EU countries, though such countries as Austria and Sweden will expand fertilizer application.
The use of fertilizers in Eastern Europe will grow by 2011: the application of nitrogenous fertilizers will rise by 19 %, phosphoric – by 9%, potassium – by 36%.
Main consumers of carbamide are Mexico, Brazil, Honduras, Guatemala, Vietnam, Thailand.
World market for mineral fertilizers faces oversupply, production shift towards feedstock-rich developing countries, fierce competition and changes in the balance of power. Despite oversupply, Argentina and Venezuela are intended to launch new facilities.
Around 90% of globally produced carbamide is used for the production of fertilizers. Carbamide is consumed in the form of granules or as a prilled product; it can be used as a 70% water solution directly introduced into the soil. Apart from that, carbamide is applied in the manufacture of urea-formaldehyde resins, paint and varnish materials, etc.
