January 20, 2008 - It’s the little things in life that drive us crazy!
People today are torn between what they have to do and what is important to them: family, friends and the luxury of time to enjoy these things.
The Concierge Industry is dedicated to giving their clients back the one thing everyone wishes they had more of...time.
82% of Canadian parents are time-starved running from office to day-care to sporting events. They have laundry piling up, meals to prepare, and a myriad of other household obligations to try fit into their busy life.
The Canadian Concierge Industry is here to help with an army of Concierge companies across Canada. There are an estimated thousand concierge and errand services able to assist clients with their daily domestic or corporate ‘to do’ lists. The Concierge industry is really making an impact on people’s lives. With a limited number of hours in each day, it can often be a struggle to find time to simply enjoy life. Daily responsibilities, family commitments and errands consume whatever free time we have left. Soon you will feel like all you are doing is working, eating and sleeping. Merely existing not living, is no way to live.
Now for the good news! Help has arrived for the countless time-starved Canadians!
Mary Ann Westendorf and Amanda O’Reilly are co-founders of The Canadian Concierge Directory "It is our goal that our directory and virtual trade association will create more public awareness as well as unity and camaraderie within the industry". Amanda is the founder and president of Balance InStyle in Ottawa, Ontario and is the company’s Director for Eastern Canada. Mary Ann is the founder and president of The Bizzy Butler® in Greater Vancouver of BC and is the Director for Western Canada.
The newly developed directory is an online database of personal concierge companies, errand services and personal assistants across Canada. They are inviting other concierge companies across Canada to assemble in one central directory to help the Canadian people! The directory will also serve as an invaluable resource for corporate clients who want to offer concierge services to their employees as part of their Employee Benefit Programs.
Time stress is highest among married men and women aged 25 to 44 who have children and who hold full-time paid jobs. 85% of women and 79% of men in this category reported that weekdays were too short to accomplish what they needed to do. Statistics Canada (1999, November 9).
58% of the Canadian working force is now women and more than half of Canadians aged 25 to 44 worry that they do not have enough time to spend with their family and friends. Statistics Canada (1999, November 9).
Professors Duxbury and Higgins have found that the work-life conflict has become worse over the past decade. With increased workloads and lengthened work hours and the fact that technology allows people to bring work home after hours are imposing a heavy load on the Canadian work force. The over load is not only affecting men and women but is now a significant challenge because of the spill over effects on personal health and family life.
