October 21, 2006 - Following the trend of other major online apparel retailers
such as Pacsun, C28 has launched an innovative, easy to use gift finder service in its online Christian gifts store, allowing customers to more easily shop their selection of unique Christian gifts, apparel, music, and accessories.
According to Website Administrator Justin Palmer, the decision to implement the gift finder service was based on the perceived shopping behavior of C28’s customers. “Shoppers are already using the internet
to save time. Our goal is to make that process even less time consuming by helping them quickly choose a gift for that certain person.” C28’s gift finder allows the web customer to view products based on gift related criteria.
First, the customer is asked whether they are shopping for a male or a female. Next they are asked to select the price range they intend to spend on the gift. Optionally, they are also asked to choose a product category. The gift finder then displays a list of products matching the
customer’s search criteria.
“Too often we assume,” continues Palmer, “that customers come to a website knowing exactly what they are looking for. Quite often, especially during the Christmas season, customers are looking for suggestions on
unique Christian gift ideas. One advantage that brick and mortar stores
have over online stores is the ability for a knowledgeable sales clerk to
suggest gift items matching the customer’s requirements. Our goal was to
simulate this in-store process as much as possible.”
C28’s strategy is inline with that of many other online retailers who are moving away from traditional category based navigation to search oriented navigation. “People have become so accustomed to the convenience of search engines,” relates Palmer, “that they expect the same searching functionality within a website that they get from a regular search engine.”
C28 hopes that the end result of implementing their gift finder will be higher conversion rates and higher average order amounts. “Any
website can sell you a product. However, we want to go the extra mile by
providing our customers with the additional value of saving their valuable time. If we can cut down the time it takes to find a gift, we believe we will see a significant increase in conversion rates as well as overall order amounts.”
