Lima, OH (1888PressRelease) September 08, 2009 - Kyle Caballero, owner of Caballero’s Landeck Tavern, is offering his restaurant as first prize in an essay-writing contest. The contest requires participants to write a 250-word (or less) essay on “why I should own a restaurant” and enclose a $200 entry fee.

The contest officially launched August 24th, 2009 in Ohio, Michigan and Indiana, but due to demand from people outside those three states, Caballero looked into adding more. “We’ve had a lot of interest from people outside of our area who wanted to participate, I’m glad we can add them to the contest” said Caballero.

The historic Landeck Tavern has been in business for over 75 years, starting out as a converted streetcar in downtown Landeck, Ohio. Caballero, a Louisiana native, purchased the Tavern in 2001 and added Cajun recipes to the menu. The restaurant has been recently remodeled which includes a new bar area, banquet room, the addition of an outside patio/bar and sand beach volleyball court. The restaurant has been valued at $500,000 and has averaged over $450,000 in revenue the past nine years.

“With the present banking situation, waiting for a buyer could take months. I decided a contest was a great way for me to succeed in a short time period, while giving someone else the opportunity to live the American Dream.” said Caballero.

The contest is scheduled to end on midnight, October 31st. Participants can submit their essay electronically by going to www.winmyrestaurant.com. Entries will be judged by an independent group of journalists. The entries are limited to a maximum of 3,000 participants and open to US residents with the exception of those residents of Arizona, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Vermont. The winner will be notified on November 25th.
