Famuse.com is an online community allowing users to organize their social lives and meet friend’s friends through the use of personal profiles and pictures. Unlike Facebook.com, Famuse.com is not restricted to college students, which is one of the biggest criticisms of FaceBook.com users. Not only does the site cater to users of all ages connecting generations of families and friends, it also does not discriminate based on location.
“FaceBook.com is rather restricted in its ability to make connections beyond an individual college campus,” says Famuse.com creator David Abraham said who organized and manages the growing website while attending classes and working full-time. “With Famuse.com, users are able to preference either a public or private profile.” Members can also personalize their profiles with a “profile editor” that allows them to customize colors, fonts, backgrounds and more.
The setup process is simple and membership is free. Other features Famuse.com offers include the ability to organize friends into categories and control which members can view profiles as well as post events and allow guests’ RSVP and comments to be seen.
Although the creator has yet to create a more efficient means for instant messaging than the widely used AIM, Famuse.com provides each user with a link to their Famuse.com account to post in their AIM profile.
What’s next for this ambitious, multipurpose site? David said that he is working on a music and entertainment section with horoscopes and special features galore. “Our Upcoming music section will compete with MySpace.com’s music section, but with a couple of surprises that they are not offering. We are also developing a classified section, allowing members to post free listings for jobs and just about anything you want to sell.”
