Building An Effective Instant Messaging System Based On B Labs Solutions

December 01, 2006 — B Labs company, the provider of proven solutions for Instant Messaging and network communications, announces the latest software versions of Bopup products, designed to build an effective instant messaging system over corporate networks, business intranets and home LANs.

(1888PressRelease) December 05, 2006 - Qualifying Standards
Today the software market of instant messaging systems includes a many solutions. If to take a brief review of those systems, considering qualifying standards and specificity of local corporate networks, it is possible to divide all offered solutions into Client/Server and Client/Client (i.e. peer-to-peer, without any ability to use of a central server) systems.

Often there is a choice of solution in the face of organization, but at the same time let’s note some requirements which should be included to the instant messaging systems that are focused on the corporate market:

• Centralized user management
• User grouping
• Offline message delivery system
• Compatibility with standard and built-in software
• Users real-time notification
• Ability to transfer files between users
• Security of all instant conversations

Solutions
The represented software products are designed on Client/Server architecture and include server-side application — Bopup Communication Server, and client-side applications — Bopup Messenger and Bopup Observer (one-way messaging client for receiving only, freeware). At the same time, real-time communication system can be built on client applications only without a central server, but in that case with a loss of powerful and effective features that come with the server.
Offered system is designed for local networks use only, that makes instant messaging more secure and confidential. Client-side applications are also compatible with standard WinPopup and Messenger Service software.

Some key features and benefits that favorably emphasize software solutions that based on Bopup Communication Server:

Centralized user accounts management
All user accounts and related information are stored and managed on server. User accounts can be easily imported from Active Directory (AD, LDAP), added manually on server or created remotely by users themselves from client-side applications (i.e. instant messengers).

User grouping
User Grouping is a key feature to build an effective instant messaging communication over corporate networks. Group message is delivered to all users that are currently assigned to specified group. User groups can be centrally managed using Bopup Communication Server. This feature lets administrator design groups according corporate needs, e.g. by department, title, location and etc.

Offline messaging
Offline Messaging extends a simple real-time communication between clients. Using Offline Messaging users are able to exchange messages even a recipient is currently offline, i.e. is not connected to a network right now. In that case a message is sent on a server. Bopup Communication Server stores and automatically delivers message to recipient when he goes online. Server saves all offline message history.

Displaying user presence status
Ability to view user presence status is a highly critical requirement for effective real-time communications. Bopup Communication Server also enables presence status feature (i.e. online, offline) that is refreshed and delivered to all connected clients.

Real-time and scheduled notification
The news messaging system makes possible a creation of regular and scheduled message delivery from the server. News messages have a priority flag that does not allow a message to be unnoticed on user computers.

System Requirements
Bopup Communication Server
Server-side application requires Microsoft Windows NT 4.0/2000/XP/2003 Server, 18MB of free hard disk space, a LAN connection with NetBIOS over TCP/IP protocol support.

Bopup Messenger/Observer
Client-side applications support Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME/NT 4.0/2000/XP/2003 Server and require 5MB of free hard disk space, a LAN connection with NetBIOS over TCP/IP protocol support.
