October 03, 2007 - A new innovative online course, found at www.Buddy-In-Law.com, enables law school applicants to develop the fundamentals of effective legal writing by working with real-life examples from a variety of legal documents. Students practice the basics of case analysis and legal reasoning as they learn to structure, develop, revise and edit their writing. The curriculum combines the convenience and flexibility of online learning with guidance, support and feedback from instructors and peers. Students can access the course anytime from any location where there is a computer with a high-speed internet connection and progress at their own pace.
Introduction to Legal Writing is designed to accommodate students with varying backgrounds and writing experiences. The course content enables students to engage their multiple intelligences in a collaborative and supportive environment. This approach encourages inquiries into the subject matter and reflection on the learning process itself. To create such a learning experience for students, the explanations include rich visuals, metaphors, associations and mnemonics. Students have an opportunity to read and analyze real legal opinions and engage in critical thinking in the context of a hypothetical case scenario. Many additional resources are included to pique students’ curiosity in the hope that they continue to learn and improve long after the course is over.
Anastasia Pryanikova, who is a lawyer, a linguist, and a certified ESL instructor, designed the curriculum and now facilitates the course on behalf of E-Studio, LLC. She is also the author of weblog www.lawsagna.com, which offers thoughts, tips, tools and other ingredients for a successful learning experience in law school and beyond.
