  • (1888PressRelease) September 23, 2013 - This is a busy season for Geoffrey Owens, who landed a role in Broadway's new production of Romeo and Juliet, starring Orlando Bloom from Pirates of the Caribbean and Tony nominated Condola Rashad. The Shakespearean actor and former star from The Cosby Show anchors an inspirational new web show called The Witness to Miracles and Angels. It's a series of mini-documentaries and interviews with authors who've chronicled true stories of near death experiences and other miraculous events.

"Can we hear from heaven?" asks Owens, posing the universal question that launches the topic of each episode, from near death awareness to miracle healings. Show producer, Pam Sherrod, says, "It's one of the most important questions we'll ever ask and yet many are hesitant to explore it."

Sherrod adds, "In reality, there are millions of people who hear from heaven, but they're often too intimidated to come forward. Their experiences, however, are valuable. They play a crucial role in helping us understand who we are, and why we're here."

Sherrod is a writer's coach and ghostwriter who has a passion for helping people tell their stories. Her first client was Altovise Davis, the widow of the famous Rat Pack entertainer, Sammy Davis, Jr. She learned something important from that assignment. "People have a dire need to share their own unique trials and triumphs," she says. "Some of them have lived amazing lives and have powerful messages to share. My role is to help them find their voice and tell their story."

RisingStar31 Productions was formed for this purpose. It's an outgrowth of an earlier company founded by Sherrod and Mrs. Davis to produce inspirational films and books for young readers. After Mrs. Davis' death, Sherrod reorganized the firm to handle a broader range of projects, including documentaries, films and a number of innovative programs to showcase the work of upcoming writers.

"We're pleased to have on our team an Emmy Award winning videographer and editor," says Sherrod. Their goal is to continue to expand their group into a dynamic collaboration of writers, directors and actors to adapt the most compelling stories to motion pictures.

This year, the company launches three major projects that feature the lives of inspirational authors and the iconic figures from different fields. In addition to The Witness to Miracles and Angels, they're planning the release of The Rising Stars, a show completely devoted to the work of new and emerging authors. In late December, they plan to also release the preview of their documentary series on people who've overcome tremendous odds to live extraordinary lives.

"Geoffrey Owens brings a wealth of experience to the show on miracles" says Sherrod. "An accomplished Shakespearean actor, he offers a classical presence that underscores the antiquity and historic relevance of the topics they discuss. The questions surrounding the reality of eternity are as old as mankind, itself, and they have piqued the interest of prominent writers of every generation, from the historic events recorded in the Bible, to the age of Shakespeare and C.S. Lewis."

These compelling questions continue to inspire writers. One of the greatest examples is found in the work of their featured guest this season, Cecil Murphey, who has written 135 books, including The New York Times Best Seller on which he collaborated, 90 Minutes in Heaven.
