April 21, 2008 - Brandon Connell, owner of RankRover recently launched Nicadema.com - a human edited directory. Nicadema has a free reciprocal option, paid, and sponsored options.
"I want to build a directory that is bigger than DMOZ and does not follow the same corrupt format that DMOZ allows. Because they are an open directory with professionals serving as editors the game filed is not level. A person who owns a company and edits the category belonging to their industry will make it hard for competitors to get listed in the directory as well" says Brandon.
Nicadema's paid option gets you in the directory for $9 and the sponsored listing stays on top of your category longer for $21 if your website meets the strict quality control standards. If you submit your website and it contains nothing but spam, illegal, porn, or affiliate ads then it can be rejected and the fee is not refunded.
"Nicadema follows a similar business model as the Yahoo! directory except we charge alot less. Yahoo! charges $300-$400 and your listing is not guaranteed either" says Brandon. "We automate alot of tasks such as reciprocal link checking which if the system finds thata you have taken down our link then yours is removed. We also automate the task of ridding the directory of dead links. Everything else is done by a human such as reviewing websites for quality standards and re-reviewing indexed websites to make sure they have not drastically changed and warrant a rejection."
Nicadema Directory staff index websites on their own, and are proud of the fact that they try to index more regularly than DMOZ. But even with that motivation there are millions of websites online, so if you want to increase your chances of getting indexed you will have to point your browser to http://www.nicadema.com and submit your link for consideration.
