September 17, 2007 - On October 1st, 2007 a company called, BrainGrade, launched its website to the public. The mission of BrainGrade is to provide online games that train people's brains. BrainGrade's founder, CEO Jim Nguyen, hopes that these games can not only entertain but also develop the analytical skills of the human mind.
"The human brain is like a muscle. If you don't use it you lose it", says Mr. Nguyen. "The aim of braingrade.com is to be a fun site where people can log in on a daily basis and exercise their mind. It only takes a few minutes each day to play these games. Why not make it fun to use your noodle?"
Mr. Nguyen says the site is just beginning with some new features still being developed. He hopes to expand the online site once users begin to use the system.
"I hope that the site can help people mentally. We are continually thinking of new ideas for games that exercise different areas of the brain. Right now we have a base of games but we do want to expand into different areas. Ultimately, we want a portal where anyone can come to our site and figure out a way to use their mind. It's still a work progress."
When asked if he believes if his site can help those with mental problems such as dementia or Alzheimer's disease, Mr. Nguyen replies, "I am not going to claim anything, but there are definite studies which have shown that people who have exercised their brain by reading, going to school, etc. are less likely to develop such diseases. BrainGrade can be one of many things you can do to exercise your mind."
On the front page of braingrade.com there is a quick test that anyone can take which will give a user a very general idea of how powerful your brain is. Upon completion of the quick test it logs the user into the system that has even more games. Each game takes about one minute to complete and the score is recorded on a daily basis. The goal is to achieve the highest grade, an "A+".
There are other video games that are similar to BrainGrade including "BrainAge" and "Big Brain Academy" offered by Nintendo.
"Our games are different", says Mr. Nguyen. "Also, those are console and hand held games. There are also brain games available for PDAs that others have developed. We are here for the World Wide Web and anyone with an internet access will be able to play."
BrainGrade is based in San Diego, CA and operates its primary business online. They hope to expand their online presence. They will be submitting their game to next year's Independent Games Festival and will be competing in the web category. BrainGrade is accessible at www.braingrade.com.
