Boulder, CO (1888PressRelease)
May 30, 2007 - As winners of the 2006 Silver Best One-of-a-Kind Custom Home (Built for a Client) 6,501 sq. ft. and over, KGA continues to enjoy its place as a nationally renowned firm.
The winning home
The Bevis family chose a Castle Pines site (just 15 minutes from Denver) for their dream home more than 5 years ago. Recessed in a valley, full of ridges and ravines, with no flat pad for a foundation, the lot required careful planning from the KGA team, including the use of nine levels, totaling almost 9,000 square feet to fit in the hillside topography. After discussions with the Bevis family, including talks of their love of world travel, KGA worked with them to create a look which emulated a Tuscan home tucked in the Italian hillside. The layout of the buildings on various levels, with many vantage points, gives the home the illusion of being in a world all its own. The owners entertain often but did not want a ‘stuffy’ feel to their home; instead a livable, usable space was created with a gorgeous groin vault loggia, a two story dining room with overlooking balcony, and a private guest suite to welcome guests from near and far.
“This project was a true team effort,” says Paul Mahony, principal architect of KGA, “From client to architect to builder to subcontractors and every craftsman involved, everyone brought their utmost talent and creativity to the drawing board. Instead of this just being everyone’s ‘next job,’ we all poured our hearts and souls into this home.”
The Bevis Residence also won Best Custom Home More Than 7,000 sq. ft. at the Denver BAR Awards on October 28, 2006 in Denver, CO. The BAR Awards are the most prestigious in Colorado’s home building industry.
