- Boston, MA-NH (1888PressRelease) February 15, 2012 - Crosby Tatum and Jacquin Holland, two Boston, MA based film producers have begun a 30-day online fundraising campaign on Indiegogo.com, to raise over $50,000 dollars to produce their latest feature film, "Surprise, Surprise!!!", a film expected to shoot in Boston, MA in the Spring/Summer of 2012. Maya Gilbert, (TNT's Southland, Middle of Nowhere-2012 Sundance Film Entry) is attached to the film as the female lead. Tatum & Holland will produce, direct, and act in the film as the main leads, while auditioning more established actors and actresses for additional roles.
Tatum & Holland, have over 20 combined years of experience producing and creating content for regional television stations on and off camera. "Surprise, Surprise!!!" presents an entertaining story focused around a smart, but socially under-confident college student tricking his womanizing best friend into dating an woman he met on the internet to save his grades and his scholarship in Boston, MA. The story is loosely based on Tatum's real-life issues dealing with low-self esteem and under-confidence when talking with women.
"It's like a hip, urban, contemporary "Cyrano de Bergerac" meets "The Kings Speech", but touches on subject matters personal to myself like finding love, dealing with low self-esteem, and having confidence to talk to women when you don't in general", says Tatum. "It's really a story about believing in yourself and being open and honest to those you care most about, while accepting responsibility for your actions, either big or small."
According to Dr. Joe Rubino, the CEO of the Center for Personal Reinvention in Boxboro, MA, "over 85% of individuals around the world suffer from some form of lack of self-esteem". Tatum and Holland both believe "Surprise, Surprise!!!" can reach this large audience with the film's message to help individuals be more confident in themselves and to be more, through the main character's issues. Film insiders and fans alike have touted great interest in "Surprise, Surprise!!!" In one month, the film's Facebook page exploded with over 2,000 Facebook likes and 1,000 Twitter followers.
Tatum and Holland hope to independently raise $350,000 dollars to produce and self-exhibit the film at various film festivals and theater screens across the country. The funds will be used to secure more talent and begin production, Tatum and Holland have reached out to indiegogo.com, to raise the initial $50,000 dollars for the film.
Indiegogo.com is an online "crowd-funding" fundraising platform that securely & collectively allows individuals worldwide to donate, publicly or anonymously, any amount they choose for a project, in exchange for special rewards. Tatum & Holland are offering incentives such as free music downloads, t-shirts, opportunities to act in the film and even Associate produce the movie.
Tatum and Holland's fundraiser however has a 30-day time limit. Whether the funding goal is successful or not, a donor's credit card or paypal account will be charged for their donation, and they will receive their reward. If their funding goal is not reached, in Tatum & Holland's words, it would "negatively affect" the movie from being made. However the producing duo is confident that will meet their goal..
"We've waited this long and accepted many "no's" from everyone in the business to get to this point so, we're trying a new avenue in hopes of raising the money to produce the film", says Tatum. "We know what our vision is, to make a great feature film. We know it's going to be a success, and the best part is we know, that the people know, it's going to be a great film". He adds, "Sometimes the best surprises are the ones you least suspect, good or bad. People who have been exposed to the film's plot love the concept, and I can't say that came as a surprise to us!"
