  • New York, NY (1888PressRelease) September 16, 2011 - Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation will hold a donor recruitment drive to register potential bone marrow donors for its worldwide registry during homecoming at Yeshiva University in New York City. The drive, scheduled on September 18, 2011, will run from 10:00 AM-3:00 PM.

This event will benefit 2 year old Ezra Fineman of New Jersey. Ezra loves the alphabet, music and his tricycle. He has a rare primary immune deficiency called Hyper IgM Syndrome, and the only cure is a bone marrow transplant. He needs to find a donor that is his perfect match. That perfect match for Ezra or another patient could be YOU.

If you are between the ages of 18 and 60 and in general good health, you are eligible to be screened and join the worldwide registry for patients in need. If you or someone you know is attending Homecoming at Yeshiva University, please consider joining the registry! A simple swab from the inside of your cheek is all it takes to determine if you are a match.

Gift of Life originated in 1991 when its founder, Jay Feinberg, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia. Jay's only hope of survival was a bone marrow transplant, and four years after his diagnosis, his match was found when the 60,000th person was tested at the very last recruitment drive held on his behalf. Today, Jay remains committed to saving the lives of others by increasing the number of bone marrow donors in the worldwide registry. Gift of Life is among the top international registries, with more than 189,000 potential volunteer donors, and is responsible for facilitating more than 2,300 bone marrow transplants.
