March 03, 2008 - Women of all ages and fitness abilities will receive the support and incentive they need to make lasting lifestyle changes by participating in Blue Sky Gym’s workshop series, “Train for the Cure.” The workshops will prepare participants for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure© on May 17th. Registration is $30 and includes the race entry fee, a breast cancer detection kit, all three workshops and a race prep workbook. All three workshops will take place at Highbanks Metro Park in Lewis Center, OH, Saturdays at 8am, beginning April 5 through April 19th.
Studies show that women who exercise regularly have a lower risk of developing breast disease. Just sixty to ninety-minutes of brisk walking per week is all it takes to cut a woman’s risk by 18%. “Many women are interested in participating in the Race for the Cure, but don’t know how to begin to train for a 3.1-mile event. It can be very intimidating for a lot of women,” points out Diane Raymond, Blue Sky Gym founder and President. “The workshops are designed to give them a blueprint for success.” In addition to a fun outdoor workout, training and nutrition tips, each participant will receive a comprehensive breast cancer detection and awareness kit.
A kick-off party at Touch of Gourmet (3931 Trueman Blvd., Hilliard) on April 3 will give women an opportunity to learn more about the workshops, register in person, create healthy meals to take home to their families and receive great tips to get them started on a path toward better health.
All workshops will begin at the Oak Coves picnic area at Highbanks Metro Park, 9466 US Rte 23 North, Lewis Center, OH. All proceeds will benefit the Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Fund. Participants may register at Touch of Gourmet on April 3rd at 7pm, or by calling: 614.296.9529.
