America will sponsor Blank-Fest NJ -- a charitable 12 hour concert that provides blankets to the homeless in New York and New Jersey -- at The Crossroads, 78 North Avenue in Garwood, NJ.
Doors will open at 12 Noon; the bands will start playing at 1PM. Twelve independent musical acts will perform for one hour each over a twelve hour time span. Admission for the show is tiered. A blanket -- new or gently used -- buys admission to the show for the entire day, plus an arm’s length of raffle tickets for hourly giveaways. Or concertgoers can pay:
• $15.00 to purchase a blanket as admission to the show, plus an arm’s length of raffle tickets.
• $10.00 to purchase a 2/3rd share in a blanket for the homeless as admission to the show and a mention on the www.letsrockamerica.com website
• $5.00 to purchase a 1/3rd share in a blanket and admission to the show.
The original Blank-Fest has been operating for the past 10 years out of Nyack, NY.
“Blank-Fest is not only an event that celebrates music, but provides blankets for those who call the streets their home,” said co-founder Kenn Rowell. He came up with the idea with partner Chuck DeBruyn while sitting in a Nyack bar one evening, mulling over ways that they could help the homeless.
“We decided to have an all-day show where people could drop by for a party, and donate a blanket as their admission,” added DeBruyn. “We personally distribute the blankets during the winter holiday season.”
The event has now expanded to New Jersey, thanks to Joe DiBlasi and Richard Kubicz, the founders of the Let’s Rock America website. “We began Let’s Rock America to help increase awareness about independent music artists around the country. When we heard about Blank-Fest, we thought, ‘Why not help the homeless while employing some of the independent musicians featured on our website?’ Everybody wins in this scenario.” To learn more about Blank-Fest, or to see a lineup of the bands performing at the concert, visit www.letsrockamerica.com.
