Debrah Lloyd-Brown, who grew up in the small town of Robbins, Illinois, a south suburb of Chicago, recently started her own business in February, 2008, DLB Management Company. It consists of a trucking company and sub-contracting company.
Mrs. Lloyd-Brown holds three degrees, including an Associate's Degree in Business Administration, a Bachelor's in Art and a Masters in Art from Governors State University. Prior to opening her business, she was a full-time intermediate and middle school art instructor at Thomas J. Kellar Middle School.
As Safety Director for the trucking company and subcontractor for the sub-contracting company, she certainly has her hands full. Mrs. Lloyd-Brown is responsible for hiring all of the employees, making sure safety policies and procedures are exercised properly, randomly drug testing employees, maintaining health records, making sure job assignments are completed on schedule, assigning supervisors to inspect each job site upon completion of assignment and confirming completion with inspections. "My ability to integrate strategies for standards, techniques and style, while inspiring others," she said, are all in a day's work.
She also attributes self-motivation, determination and a positive attitude on the job to her good fortune thus far. Though she plans to continue in her current field as Owner and CEO for her company, Mrs. Lloyd-Brown will also continue her singing/songwriting career, and hopes to attain her Masters of Fine Art in Sculpture, as well as a Masters in Community Counseling in the near future.
Mrs. Lloyd-Brown has written and illustrated two children's books, which are pending publication. She is creating a series of books based on her original created characters. They will be academically structured, catering to children from the pre-school level through grade eight.
Mrs. Lloyd-Brown believes that everyone has at least one talent. She says that everyone should "reach beyond the stars, follow your dreams and stay focused, because anything is possible." She thanks her parents for nurturing her with love and faith throughout the years.
Debrah was on the Dean's List at Governors State University and was awarded the All-American Scholar Collegiate Award, from the United States Achievement Academy. She's a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers and supports the American Red Cross and The Salvation Army.
