December 02, 2008 - Deanne F. Riess started her professional teaching career in 1978 as a first-generation college graduate from a family of six children. She graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a B.S. in Physical Education, and minors in both Health and Driver Education. Deanne also participated in varsity level Women’s Intercollegiate Softball and Field Hockey for four years.
Starting her professional teaching career in 1978, Deanne F. Riess taught Physical Education, Health and Driver Education in public schools. She went on to earn her Ph.D. in Curriculum Instruction from Indiana State University in 1989, and currently specializes in teaching professional education courses, Health and Wellness, and Physical Education.
For over 30 years, Deanne F. Riess has worked within the teaching profession. Her goal is to challenge conventional thought as well as to inspire students to think for themselves. Dr. Riess believes that diversity lends itself to the creative process and that as a nation it is our greatest strength. She personally strives to cultivate and allow for those unique qualities to "shine through" for each student, and believes that an education is far more than textbook learning or technological wizardry.
Beyond the classroom, Deanne F. Riess has also taught and trained persons in the public work setting and is currently co-sponsor to the student wellness organization at McKendree University. In her spare time, she enjoys family, gardening, and sports.
