April 03, 2009 - The selection recognizes Carol Singletary's commitment to excellence in the retail industry.
Mrs. Carol Singletary, a native of Sugarcreek, Ohio, opened her business five years ago with the can-do attitude that she could do anything. Being raised Amish and having the education level of only an eighth grader, she wasn't allowed to go to high school. But according to Mrs. Singletary, "If I can accomplish this, anyone can. It's all in the determination".
Opening its doors in August, 2005, Mrs. Singletary markets her products to accommodate the 'big and tall' customers, which includes a store and website for making online purchases. Her international business, which boasts a large scale of apparel from size medium to 11/12 XL, include a wide variety of shoes, belts, clothing, outerwear, coats, t-shirts, overalls, coveralls, sports shirts, sweatshirts, thermal underwear, vests, rain and wind protection, safety wear and uniforms for both men and women.
Mrs. Singletary is responsible for running and maintaining her store in Gaffney, as well as keeping up with the company website and listing her products on eBay. Although her primary goal was to work completely from home after suffering a knee injury, you will surely find Carol at the store taking care of customer's first-hand. She also dedicates a lot of time to the sales and marketing aspect of the business.
Mrs. Singletary thanks at at-home advertisement from a company called Bright Builders that got her business up and running. The company got her started on eBay and later offered her the website. After deciding what she wanted to sell, the company coached her over the phone for six weeks, giving her a blank home page to develop her site. The site's development took endless hours with the help of tutorials, but she was able to build it entirely on her own. She credits her hard work, dedication and inspiration to her parents late business and the fact that her "days being on my feet all day were over".
Carol is a past member of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, contributes to local fire and police departments and is very involved in her community. In her spare time she enjoys sightseeing, collecting Precious Moments and time with her family.
Rocky's Big and Tall is located at 298 Green River Road in Gaffney, South Carolina. Their store hours are Thursday through Saturday from 10am-5pm. You can also visit their website at http://www.rockysbig-tall.com.
