August 14, 2009 - The selection recognizes Alisa Wood Clement's commitment to excellence in the field of Healthcare.
Alisa Wood Clements, has dedicated the past 22 years to the healthcare industry. She began in 1987, working as as a secretary on the medical floor at Lanier Hospital in Valley, Alabama, and later moving into a monitor technician position in the intensive care unit until she achieved her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) degree from West Georgia Tech in LaGrange, Georgia in 1992.
Ms. Clements knew at a very young age that she wanted to become a nurse. She was inspired and motivated by her aunt, Mary Nell Fetner, who also wanted to become a nurse. "She lived long enough to see me accomplish my dream. She passed away the day I learned I had passed the RN boards," Clements said.
Currently working as a charge nurse at Jack Houghtson Memorial Hospital, Clements oversees orthopedic patients. She is responsible for their care from post-op surgery to preparing them to go home or to a rehabilitation facility. She monitors medications, wounds, drains and any equipment they may require and assists in their therapy. In addition, she oversees the other nurses and technicians on the floor and helps them as needed. She also assists the patient’s families with any complaints or needs they may have and makes rounds with the physicians to help support in the proper care of the patients.
Ms. Clements is a firm believer in continued education and training when it comes to medication and treatment. She is a certified trauma nurse and is also certified in adult, pediatric and neonatal advance life support. She has taken numerous classes for trauma, cardiac, OB/GYN and endoscopy nursing. Clements is currently pursuing her Master's Degree in Nursing at Jacksonville State College and is a member of the Emergency Nurses Association. In her spare time, Alisa enjoys the outdoors, fishing, hunting, hiking, engaging in church activities and spending quality time with her three daughters, Ashley, Kayla and Leah.
